Amazon Product Review - Gold Armour Camping Tarp
Whether you’re going into the wilderness to hunt, camp, fish, or even just for your weekend stroll, having a tarp in the car or in your pack is never a bad idea. A tarp is one of the most versatile and in our opinion, essential pieces of gear no matter what outdoor activity you’re partaking in. Whether it’s your rain cover for your tent or hammock, your shelter while scouting for game, or a makeshift rainwater collector in a pinch, it never hurts to bring a tarp along with you on your adventure.
With that being said, nobody wants to lug around a 3 pound 10’ by 12’ tarp that takes up all the room in your pack or that must be attached to the outside. Lightweight, packable camping tarps are a great solution but often come with a hefty price tag. We think we’ve found the best outdoor recreation tarp for the money and boy are we excited to share it with you.
The Gold Armour Rainfly Tarp comes in a variety of different colors including black, blue, brown, and many other options, as well as many different configurations from as small as 8’ by 10’ to as big as 14’ by 10’ as well as in a hex configuration. They range in price from around $30 to $50 depending on size, color, and configuration. Our favorite part about Gold Armour tarps? They come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee by including a 5-year warranty. Not to mention they are a U.S.-based company which we love to see and support.
So, what do you get for $30-$50? Included in the package is, of course, your camping tarp, as well as four, aluminum stakes, paracord to tie off, a small stuff sack for your stakes and paracord, and a small drawstring bag that will vary in size depending on what size tarp you go with to keep everything in one small package. The tarp is made of premium ripstop polyester with an amazing 5000mm waterproof rating.
5000mm essentially means that 5000mm worth of rain (16.4 ft) can fall on your tarp before any water starts to seep through. In other words, unless you’re camping in a monsoon, it’ll keep you plenty dry (we have first-hand experience with this tarp holding up to multiple midwestern storms).
The tarp includes two centerlines and 33 tie down points along the edges and through the center of the tarp. This is something that we have really come to love about camping tarps in general but especially this one. We’ve spent plenty of nights camping with a four-corner grommet tarp from Walmart and well, it’s just not the best option.
When we purchased our camping tarp, we went with the 10’ by 12’ camo version and it has served us well when hunting and camping in wet conditions. I throw it in my pack anytime I venture into the woods because it gives me great confidence knowing that this small package that weighs around 1.6 lbs. will keep me dry in a pinch.
Overall, the Gold Armour Rainfly Camping Tarp is a piece of gear we highly recommend for anyone looking for their next (or first) budget outdoor recreation tarp. It will keep you dry, allow for more space in your pack, and won’t cause you any back pain from carrying it around all day. To check out the Gold Armour Rainfly Tarp on Amazon click here.
